I've finally gotten around to doing some more work on Forumlist - for those that don't know, its a site that lists parts, cars and wanted adverts (threads actually) from a selection of UK forums. It is updated automatically every thirty minutes or so.

It is primarily designed as a service to help people find the bits and bobs they are after more quickly - it saves trawling vast quanities of forums for that über-rare JDM y0! part you're after.

So far there are two main "sections", the Honda one, and the VAG (mainly VW to be honest)...

For those interested, in the tech details, the server runs Debian, PHP5, Apache 2.2, Memcached and XCache, to try and get the best possible performance. I might end up switching to lighttpd too, but we'll see!

Glen, his brother and I are off to Oktoberfest at the end of the month...flying to Berlin, and driving down the next day in a rental car for the weekend.

Judge for yourself, but from the wikipedia article it looks pretty insane - it being the world's largest fair, with some six million people attending every year...

30% of the year's production of beer by Munich breweries will be consumed in the two weeks of Oktoberfest.

Should be a laugh, I will post back with pictures when I've been!

Small dent....

Ooppps, I drove in to the wall at my dads house when trying to park. New bumper time! It seems to have scratched the plastic pretty badly!

New engine

Permalink 05:35:29 pm, Categories: Cars

God knows why, but I've fitted a new engine to the CRX. Its a B16A1, a UK spec item. Its low milage compared to my engine - having around 70,000 miles on it! Alot better than my 140,000+ miles...

Anyway, there were a few issues with it to start, some problems with hunting and smoke...odd being such a low milage one.

It turned out to be the PCV pipe to the inlet manifold not having a one way valve on. Soon fixed this!

It goes ok now, but to be honest, probably wasnt worth it. I orginally had been told my old engine had a head gasket gone. It didnt - doing another comp test resulted in all 4 on the B16A >205psi, which is pretty good apparently.

Oh well, at least I have a low milage engine, with new cambelt, water pump and a good spare as well :D

Arrived and fitted. They seem ok, though the running in method warped my disc's badly. Will have to get a new set from somewhere.
